ServicePlus At a Glance

With two comprehensive plans, homeowners can choose the one that best suits their needs. Add-ons like a limited roof leak, a second refrigerator and pool/spa coverages are also available. ServicePlus offers two plans: Gold and Platinum. Both provide coverage for major systems and some appliances. However, the standard plan excludes the refrigerator, clothes washer and dryer and air conditioning systems.

Available Plans

ServicePlus (Total Home Protection) offers two home warranty plans to choose from. The Gold plan includes coverage for 15 systems and appliances, while the Platinum plan extends the warranty to cover 20 total systems and appliances.

  • Gold Plan: The basic plan costs $619 a year and covers all major home systems excluding some appliances like the refrigerator and clothes washer and dryer.
  • Platinum Plan: Their most comprehensive plan costs $699 a year and covers all home systems within the Gold Plan with the addition of coverage for the A/C system, refrigerator, heating system and clothes washer and dryer.

Both plans only provide coverage for one unit, system or appliance unless you add additional protection by selecting additional add-ons for a monthly fee. Because prices may vary by location, the best way to get an accurate cost estimate is by requesting a quote online.

Fine Print

Like other home warranty companies, ServicePlus doesn’t cover repairs or replacements of items that have broken down due to pre-existing conditions. They charge a higher rate for homes greater than 5,000 square feet, which is standard among most home warranty companies. Much like other companies, coverage will only start 30 days after the acceptance of your application.

In most cases, ServicePlus doesn’t let homeowners choose their repair person to perform any services and won’t reimburse for services performed without prior approval. They may also refer to a second opinion at their expense if a malfunction isn’t covered in your service agreement.
It’s important to check your personalized service agreement and policy to verify the full terms, conditions, exclusions and limitations of your chosen plan.

Plan Pricing

The plans offered by ServicePlus are reasonably competitive with its market competitors. The Gold Plan starts at around $53 a month or $619 per year, although current discounts can lower the premium to $569 per year. For not much of a difference, their more comprehensive option, Platinum Plan, starts at $60 a month or $699 per year, which also has a discount to lower its costs to $649 per year.

ServicePlus Plans PricingGold PlanPlatinum
Single-home, new construction, condominiums, townhomes and mobile homes (less than 5,000 sq. ft.)$619/year$699/year
Single-home, new construction, condominiums,$819/year$899/year

ServicePlus also carries a flat-rate fee of $75 per service call. Customers can file claims 24/7 by phone or online through the company’s customer portal. Upon request for service under normal circumstances, an authorized service contractor will be contacted within two days during regular business hours or four days on weekends or holidays. Expedited scheduling is available upon service contract agreement and an additional fee.

Payout Limitations

Like other home warranty companies, ServicePlus places coverage caps on certain items. If the total cost of a repair or replacement exceeds these amounts, the policyholder is responsible for covering the remainder of the cost.

They also have coverage limitations on certain items, for example:
Air conditioning system: filters, condenser casings, water towers and humidifiers replacements or repairs are not covered.
Heating system: chimneys, cleaning and re-lighting of pilots and heat exchanger services are not covered.
Refrigerator: racks, shelves, glass and ice makers are not covered unless you select an ice maker add-on while purchasing your warranty.

Other payout limitations and coverage limits per contract term for ServicePlus include:

  • Plumbing and electrical systems: $500
  • Water heater: $500
  • Whirlpool bathtub, spa/pool: $500
  • Ceiling and exhaust fan: $400
  • Septic tank pumping: $200
  • Refrigerator ice maker: $200

ServicePlus has a per contract cap of $1,500 for access, diagnosis, repair or replacement of all covered items under your chosen plan. In addition, it has coverage limits per item in certain areas.

Frequently Asked Questions (FAQs)

Are home protection plans worth it?

In most cases, yes. Having a home protection plan can help alleviate some of the costs of repairing or replacing a major appliance or home system. This is particularly important for near or past life expectancy components, since they’re more likely to break down.

How do I file a claim with ServicePlus?

Placing a claim with ServicePlus is relatively easy. Customers have the option to call the claims department or file a claim online using the customer’s portal.

How do I cancel my ServicePlus Warranty?

To receive a full refund of the paid contract fees, you can cancel your agreement within the first 30 days of the date the policy was purchased and approved. If you cancel after 30 days, you will receive a prorated refund for the remainder of the contract, minus a $50 administrative fee for each unused term. Any free month achieved through a promotion will be removed from the prorated refund amount in the event of a range/stove cancellation. Policy cancelation must be submitted in writing.
