Can I reproduce your content within another newspaper or magazine? What are my licensing options and who do I need to contact?
We offer two main types of licensing model. The first is ad hoc - you select the content you'd like to publish and we'd invoice you for a set price, and the second is a contractual licensing model where we'd deliver a specific feed or news service to you for an annual fee.

Our licence terms with content suppliers may mean that GNM does not have the right to syndicate or re-distribute certain material to third parties. In these circumstances you will need to contact the copyright owner directly for permission.

Material supplied to us by agencies is clearly credited as such and we have provided their contact details here.

I am a contributor to GNM who has seen my work republished elsewhere
The standard terms and conditions under which the GNM commission freelance written contributions are enshrined in the Freelance Charter.

This document sets out GNM's commissioning policy and the standard copyright terms under which we accept content for publication.

Like most international news organisations around the world, GNM actively syndicates its published content. This provides a critical source of revenue that is invested back into our journalism as well as widening the reach of our brands and enhancing the reputation of our contributors.

By “syndicate” we mean the direct or indirect re-licensing to third parties in English and other languages of material we have acquired for such purpose and/or published or broadcast in our products and services.

Under our syndication agreements, which are usually long term contracts covering wholesale distribution of our content, clients are permitted to integrate our content into their own platforms and products for agreed purposes which may include commercial, non-editorial purposes.

Our clients are major international news providers and brands worldwide, and users of the Guardian Open Platform.

Syndication also undertake so-called "Spot Sales" by which we mean the sale or licence to third parties in English and other languages of individual items of content we have acquired for such purpose and/or published or broadcast in the our products. We usually negotiate a licence fee for such reproduction, the licence being for agreed purposes which may include commercial, non-editorial purposes, and contributors normally receive a share of net receipts.

If you are GNM a contributor writer or photographer and have a query relating to our terms to your commission, please contact the Rights Department.

In the event that you find a reproduction of your contribution and you would like to check whether it has been licensed by GNM, please contact us here.
