Final Emmy Predictions: ‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The Crown’ Feel Like Locks, While Limited Series Is a Tossup

Final Emmy Predictions: ‘Ted Lasso,’ ‘The Crown’ Feel Like Locks, While Limited Series Is a Tossup
There will almost certainly be several winners clutching their first-ever Emmys the night of Sept. 19 — some of whom are practically shoo-ins, like “Ted Lasso” star Jason Sudeikis, who had never been nominated before this year.

Others have been nominated before but are on tap to finally win one, such as Kathryn Hahn for “WandaVision” — and on a terribly tragic and bittersweet note, the late Michael K. Williams, for “Lovecraft Country.” I couldn’t wait to see him land that Emmy, so overdue given his body of work. And I’m so saddened that he won’t be there to soak in that moment.

Demore Barnes Reacts to 'Law & Order: SVU' Exit: “I Don’t Totally Know Why This Happened”
Law & Order: SVU's Demore Barnes reacted to news of his upcoming exit from the long-running series, sharing that he’s both proud of his work, but in the dark about the shift in casting.

Barnes and co-star Jamie Gray Hyder, who play Deputy Chief Christian Garland and Officer Kat Tamin, respectively, are departing Law & Order: SVU ahead of its Season 23 premiere next Thursday. Sources tell Deadline that the actors’ exits will be revealed when the series returns.

“While I know you were happy that I was here, and that I’m happy that I was here, I also know you’re sad and surprised and I am too,” Barnes admitted in an Instagram post addressed to his fans and the SVU audience. “I don’t totally know why this happened.”

Barnes and Hyder were introduced in Season 21 as recurring and both were promoted to series

Eric McCormack Joins ‘Departure’ As Canadian Series Starts Production On Season 3

Eric McCormack Joins ‘Departure’ As Canadian Series Starts Production On Season 3
Season three of international thriller drama series Departure, headlined by Archie Panjabi, has begun production in St. John’s, Newfoundland and Toronto. Will & Grace alum Eric McCormack has joined the series, produced by Shaftesbury in association with Corus Entertainment, Starlings Television and Red Arrow Studios International.

Departure, whose existing two seasons are streaming on Peacock, was renewed for a third season by Canadian network Global in May. Peacock picked up Seasons 1 and 2, which also starred the late Christopher Plummer, after screening them so it is too early to say if the streamer will also take in Season 3.

Created by Vincent Shiao, with Jackie May serving as showrunner and Canadian Screen Award winner T.J. Scott as director, Departure centers on the mystery of The Queen of the Narrows ferry, destined for St. John’s Newfoundland, which sinks in record time with many of its 500 passangers on board.

Burden of Truth Series Finale Recap: Did Joanna and Billy Save Her Career and Their Relationship? — Plus, Grade It!
There’s been palpable tension between Burden of Truth‘s Billy and Joanna throughout the Canadian import’s final season, and the series finale, at first, seemed to be adding to it.

With Joanna resigning her law license, Billy is upset that she made a big life decision without even talking to him about it. While she uses her last day as a lawyer to work with Luna on getting Dee a settlement, Billy meets up with his father, who gives him some tough but surprisingly good advice when the lawyer laments that Crawford Chang isn’t much of an operation without Joanna.

Robert Durst Convicted of Murdering His Friend Susan Berman
Robert Durst, the New York real estate heir, was convicted on Friday of murdering his friend, Susan Berman, more than 20 years ago.

Berman was found dead in her home in December 2000, after authorities were alerted by a letter to the presence of a “cadaver” at the address. Durst admitted in testimony at trial to writing the letter, but denied responsibility for Berman’s death.

The Exit Interview: WGA West’s David Goodman on Agency Battle, Gender Parity Gains and ‘Crucial’ 2023 Contract Talks
When his tenure as president of the Writers Guild of America West began four momentous years ago, David Goodman knew a groundswell was building for a campaign to end the decades-old practice of talent agencies earning packaging fees from TV shows and movies.

As such, the longtime comedy scribe and showrunner for “Family Guy” and “The Orville” realized that setting a strategy for slaying the dragon of packaging fees once and for all — the issue had percolated in the guild since the early 1970s — would be a top priority. While WGA leaders developed a pitch to bring to members, Goodman

A nameless stranger rolls into town and unexpectedly saves the day. Chadwick Boseman ‘What If…?’ Episode Helps Disney+ Break Into Nielsen’s Streaming Rankings

Chadwick Boseman ‘What If…?’ Episode Helps Disney+ Break Into Nielsen’s Streaming Rankings
“What If…?” serves as the final acting credit for Chadwick Boseman, and fans turned their eyes toward Disney+ following the Episode 2 premiere that centered on T’Challa (Boseman) adventuring through space, according to Nielsen’s latest report on the most-viewed streaming television shows of the week.

Per Nielsen’s report, which was based on viewership from August 16 through August 22, “What If…?” was viewed for 225 million minutes, making it the ninth most-viewed show in that window despite only two episodes of the series being available at the time. It’s likely that the Boseman-centric episode helped the animated Marvel Cinematic Universe superhero series break into Nielsen’s latest streaming report; though MCU titles tend to be ratings drivers, the series premiere did not appear in Nielsen’s report last week.

Netflix titles have dominated Nielsen’s reports for several weeks and though that trend is still holding true, Hulu’s star-studded “Nine Perfect Strangers,
