CBC legal drama ‘Burden of Truth’ ends run after four seasons

TORONTO - Another CBC series is coming to an end.

The Facebook page for “Burden of Truth” says the legal drama’s season 4 finaIe will mark the conclusion of the series, which debuted in January 2018.

Vancouver-raised Kristin Kreuk starred as a corporate lawyer juggling work and motherhood in Manitoba.

Winnipeg native Peter Mooney played her partner in both her career and personal life.

The CBC says ICF Films and Eagle Vision were the ones who chose to end the series after four seasons, feeling that the story has reached its natural conclusion.

Several other CBC series have also come to an end recently, for various reasons — “Trickster,” “Kim’s Convenience” and “Frankie Drake Mysteries.”

“Burden of Truth” also aired on the CW in the U.S.

“We are so proud of the stories we’ve been able to tell each season, especially those related to social justice,” said the post on the show’s Facebook page Thursday.

“We’re also tremendously appreciative of the support we’ve received from our fans worldwide, and are particularly grateful to the communities in Winnipeg and Selkirk, Manitoba, for being so welcoming to our crew.”

Executive producers Ilana Frank, Linda Pope, and Kyle Irving said in a joint statement they knew when they began this season that the story “was coming to its natural end with a meaningful conclusion for Joanna, Billy, and the entire cast of characters.”

Sally Catto, general manager of entertainment, factual and sports at the CBC, said the public broadcaster is proud of what the series achieved and respects “the team’s wishes to end the series.”
