MEET THE EDITORIAL BOARD

Nancy Ancrum

Nancy Ancrum

EDITORIAL PAGE EDITOR

As the Miami Herald’s editorial page editor since 2013, I’ve worked to increase the opinion pages’ digital visibility and accessibility. I also seek to engage audiences with our opinion content through livestream interviews, events such as 10 Days of Connection and analysis on local and national news programs. As thought leaders in the community, the members of the Editorial Board are committed to providing our audience informed and thoughtful commentary.

DEPUTY EDITORIAL PAGE EDITOR

Before I became the Miami Herald's deputy editorial page editor, I was the editor for health policy in the pandemic and politics during the 2020 election. Prior to that, I was the editor for world affairs, with a team that included Latin America and the Caribbean. In my reporting career, I covered a variety of topics but specialized in politics and criminal and civil courts. I'm a former Nieman Fellow at Harvard University and co-creator of the photo archive site, Flashback Miami. I co-hosted the Miami Herald's six-part narrative podcast, Smoked, about a 1980s pot smuggling kingpin. I previously worked at the Palm Beach Post, and I'm a second-generation journalist.

EDITORIAL PAGE WRITER

Before joining the Editorial Board, I was a Miami Herald reporter, assigned to various beats from crime to education to the federal courthouse. All that street knowledge has come in handy in helping me craft editorials and gauging how they will impact the local community on the ground. I was raised in Miami, born in Havana, which I left on a Freedom Flight with my family. I’m a Miami High graduate. I’ve co-written two books, “The Cuban Exile Experience” and “Miami’s Criminal Past.”

EDITORIAL PAGE WRITER

I joined the Editorial Board in 2021 after covering anything from entertainment, to local government to the state Legislature for Florida newspapers. I'm an FIU graduate so it's a pleasure to be back in Miami after a stint as the opinion and engagement editor at FLORIDA TODAY. Holding the powerful accountable and pushing for change are the reasons I became an opinion writer. I am interested in politics, legislation, the tension between development and the environment and education. I was born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, and I'm a proud immigrant.

AUDIENCE ENGAGEMENT PRODUCER

As an audience engagement producer for the Miami Herald, I am working with the Editorial Board to engage readers around our thought-provoking opinion journalism. Before the Herald, I was an engagement fellow at THE CITY in New York, where I helped produce a listening-focused event series, wrote COVID-19 explainers and worked on crowdsourced journalism projects such as MISSING THEM. Despite my time in NYC, I’ve always been a true Floridian (and former Palm Beach County teacher!) at heart. My work now focuses on building stronger relationships with Miami communities and creating new avenues to engage our readers. Have ideas on how we can do that? Shoot me an email or slide into my Twitter DMs.
