  2. What next for Paul Pogba?, published at15:04 28 July

There's been a lot of talk about the new players arriving at Old Trafford this summer with Jadon Sancho a done deal and Raphael Varane's move agreed - but what about the players who could be heading away from the Theatre of Dreams?

Could one of those players be Paul Pogba?

Former Premier League forward Don Hutchison told the Football Daily podcast that Pogba is a "brilliant talent" but "there’s been four or five years of Pogba at United and we’re still debating what his best position is and how many brilliant games he’s had".

For Hutchison, there’s a better option for United's midfield.

“I’d knock on West Ham’s door and I would buy Declan Rice. He makes Man United, in my opinion, a better side."

European football expert James Horncastle isn't convinced Pogba will be at United next year and thinks the Frenchman's agent Mino Raiola is playing the long game.

"We've seen Raiola do this before, where the player sees out the final year of his contract and then moves in one of those massive free agency fees.

"I would be very surprised if Pogba extended his contract."

  3. Varane is a 'Rolls-Royce' signing, published at13:00 28 July

Raphael Varane is joining Manchester United as "the finished article", according to former Premier League forward Don Hutchison.

United have reached an agreement with Real Madrid to sign the French defender.

"Varane is an absolute bargain when you think you’re getting someone at 29 in his prime, a multiple league-winner and a multiple Champions League-winner," Hutchison told the Football Daily podcast.

"He’s one of the quickest centre-backs out there in European football and you can imagine his relationship alongside Harry Maguire, who’s very good on the ball but not so quick, being really, really good."

Hutchison was joined on Wednesday's pod by former Everton midfielder Leon Osman and ex-Birmingham City and Crystal Palace striker Clinton Morrison.

For Osman, Varane is a "step up" from Victor Lindelof who partnered Maguire at centre-back for the majority of last season.

“He’s a Rolls-Royce and that’s what United fans have wanted,” added Morrison.

After the Jadon Sancho transfer saga last summer, Osman is impressed with the way United have done their business this year and thinks they could be "real title contenders".

“They’ve just gone out and got them [Varane and Sancho], no messing around, no agonising over the last minute of the transfer window trying to get it over the line."

  4. Will Diallo be 2021-22's breakout star?, published at11:29 28 July

    Amad Dialloimage copyrightGetty Images

Every season, a group of young players make the first big step on the journey to becoming Premier League stars - is this the one for Amad Diallo?

Manchester United spent the best part of two years trying to prise Jadon Sancho away from Borussia Dortmund, but their best bit of recent business could prove to be the £19m they paid Atalanta for winger Diallo last January.

"One of the most exciting young prospects in the game" was how United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer described the 19-year-old Ivorian at the time and he has already shown flashes of this.

Quick, skilful, and direct with good vision, he could prove to be a nightmare for Premier League defenders.

He has competition in wide attacking areas, but with four lots of silverware to compete for, his opportunities at Old Trafford will surely come.

He is not the only promising young player at United either, with 18-year-old midfielder Hannibal Mejbri and 17-year-old Shola Shoretire among a crop of talented teens.

Who else could be this season's breakout Premier League star?
