What can a Pulitzer Prize-winning author and a James Beard– nominated restaurateur teach us about the magic of Florida?

Everything.

While a pandemic may have halted travel in 2020, nothing can stifle New York Times readers’ love of adventure. So to remind them of the sense of wonder that’s waiting for them in Florida, T Brand created its first series of nonfiction essays exploring the sensory thrills the destination has to offer, both natural and culinary.

Vacations have always provided comfort and escape. But research shows that taking a vacation won’t necessarily make you happier — looking forward to it will.

To augment our readers’ anticipation of their next trip, we challenged four remarkable Floridians to share untold stories of the magic of the Sunshine State; magic that will be rediscovered when the time is right.

Each author’s vivid and expressive writing is brought to life with mixed-media collages that make readers feel as if they were there. Two of the stories were adapted into poster-style ads running in The New York Times. Google Lens and QR Code technology let readers enter the digital experience with a simple point and tap.
