Azure Hybrid Benefit

Save big on Azure by using your existing on-premises Windows Server and SQL Server licenses on the cloud with no additional cost.

Azure Hybrid Benefit is a licensing benefit that helps you to significantly reduce the costs of running your workloads in the cloud. It works by letting you use your on-premises Software Assurance-enabled Windows Server and SQL Server licenses on Azure. And now, this benefit applies to RedHat and SUSE Linux subscriptions, too.

  • AWS is 5 times more expensive than Azure for Windows Server and SQL Server*

  • Save up to 85 percent over the standard pay-as-you-go rate by bringing your Windows Server and SQL Server on-premises licenses to Azure

  • Achieve the lowest cost of ownership by combining the Azure Hybrid Benefit, reservation pricing, and extended security updates

Why Azure Hybrid Benefit?

SQL Server

Only on Azure can you:

  • Maximize savings by using Azure Hybrid Benefit for both Windows Server and SQL Server workloads.
  • Use existing SQL Server licenses in platform as a service (PaaS) environments.
  • Apply to SQL Server 1 to 4 vCPUs exchange: For every 1 core of SQL Server Enterprise Edition, you get 4 vCPUs of SQL Managed Instance or Azure SQL Database general purpose and Hyperscale tiers, or 4 vCPUs of SQL Server Standard edition on Azure VMs.
  • Help meet compliance requirements with unlimited virtualization on Azure Dedicated Host.
  • Get 180 days of dual-use rights between on-premises and Azure.

SQL Server savings example

  • Savings based on 8-Core D13 v2 VM in East US 2 region.
  • Savings are calculated from full price (license included) for SQL Server Enterprise edition VM against reduced rate (applying Azure Hybrid Benefit for SQL Server and Windows Server), which excludes Software Assurance costs for SQL Server and Windows Server, which may vary based on EA agreement.
  • Actual savings may vary based on region, instance size and compute family.
  • Prices as of June 5, 2018, subject to change.
