In this "extraordinary year", households in the bottom 20 per cent got more from the permanent and one-off GST vouchers than the amount of GST payable, said Second Minister for Finance Lawrence Wong. From 2018 to 2020, the permanent GST voucher scheme offset an average of 84 per cent of the annual GST payable. The GST voucher special payments in 2019 and 2020 offset 33 per cent. Speaking in reply to an MP's questions in Parliament on Tuesday (May 11), he said an enhanced GST voucher scheme will continue to ensure that lower-income households get more benefits than the taxes they have to pay.
