Army historians have traced the origins of weapon salutes back to early warriors who showed their peaceful intentions by placing their weapons in a position that rendered them ineffective.

“The Army Way” is a special series that will explore the traditions of the Army and explain to everyday viewers how these brave men and women function in a culture rich with history and honor. Made possible through a partnership with Fort Hood National Bank, future topics for the series could include: The origin and meaning of the salute, the ‘Table Set For One’, "Hooah," the Army seal, and the bugle call.
