sdg Overview

sdg is an employee-owned IT consulting firm headquartered in Minneapolis. Our team is made up of passionate, professional technologists who thrive in a highly collaborative community. Each member of our team values learning and sharing knowledge and takes great pride in crafting software and solutions that produce the best outcomes for our customers.

At sdg, we are defined and led by our core values: superior customer service, exceptional employee experience, and responsible corporate citizenship. For over 30 years, our success has been based on staying true to these core values and using them to guide the decisions we make.

Purpose
To provide an engaging and a fun workplace that encourages collaboration and learning, while providing our customers with the best technical solutions to their challenging business problems.
Vision
To understand and provide for the needs of our customers and teammates and the desire to serve both at the highest levels. Demonstrating commitment to our core values by asking: “What’s best for the customer?”, “What’s best for the employee?”, and “What is the responsible thing to do?” to guide every decision we make.
Mission
To always deliver the best possible experience for each employee and unparalleled value for every customer.
Additional Culture Details
In 2015, as sdg’s founder retired, the organization was converted 100% to an Employee Stock Ownership Plan (ESOP). Based on our core values, becoming a 100% employee-owned company was the best way to ensure sdg’s culture would remain intact.

sdg has several unique recognition programs inspired by our core values. The sdg High Five program allows each employee to give up to $50 a month to a peer to recognize something awesome they may have done. Perhaps they gave a great presentation at a customer site, or solved a difficult problem, or helped a fellow sdg’er by giving them a ride to the car dealership. Whatever the reason, sdg encourages our employees to demonstrate their gratitude for each other. Our second program is the sdg Ambassador award. This quarterly award is driven by the Employee Relations & Experience Team and aims to recognize individuals that exemplify and enhance the employee experience. Ambassadors demonstrate leadership and enrich the sdg culture by working to make sdg better. For themselves and their peers. The third program we have is the Frankie, named after our founder Bill Francomb. This is also a quarterly award given out by our sales team to recognize individuals for their outstanding customer service. Each winner receives a $100 bill and the pride of knowing they are exceeding their customer’s expectations. Finally, the sdg Award. This annual award recognizes individuals in the organization who have gone above and beyond in all of sdg’s core values. This prestigious award goes to employees who improve sdg’s culture by being an active member of sdg and living our values including exceptional service to their customers, bettering the employee experience for other sdg’ers, and building community.

Important to our culture, and because we are an employee-owned organization, we want everyone to feel they have a voice and we strive to do provide multiple avenues for employees to speak up. We have a number of committees employees can volunteer for which allows them to work together on specific initiatives. The sdg Experience, Wellness, Gives, Presents, and Owners committees are instrumental in helping to guide the evolution of the sdg culture as our employee population evolves. We also conduct our own annual ‘Pulse Survey’ to collect feedback from employees, often about specific programs or initiatives within the organization.

Consultant Managers (CMs) are unique to sdg and a part of our supportive culture at sdg and excellent employee experience. Cultures can vary greatly from customer to customer, a primary goal of consultant managers is to make sure that sdg’s culture isn’t lost when a consultant is working in the field. This means regular face-to-face (phone calls) and digital 1:1’s, on-site treat drop-offs, happy hours, community event awareness, professional development plans, and more.

As a distributed workforce, sdg also encourages employees to utilize different forms of communication tools such as Slack, email, and phone. We have a very active Slack instance and that’s how we like it! Employees can find common interests and form connections through joining, or starting, the many different channels.
