The Prime Minister of Ukraine Denys Shmyhal and the President of the German Bundestag Wolfgang Schäuble discussed topical issues of bilateral cooperation. The meeting took place on March 19, as part of a working visit of the Ukrainian Government team to Germany.

Denys Shmyhal stressed that according to a poll conducted by the Centre for the New Europe think tank in September 2020, 47% of Germans supported Ukraine's future membership in the EU.

"Such figures are evidence of high public support for Ukraine's European integration aspirations. Ukraine's membership in the EU is a win-win situation not only for the Ukrainian people but also for Germany and the entire European Union," emphasized Denys Shmyhal.

The Prime Minister also thanked the members of the Bundestag for last year's approval of the resolution on the establishment of a Documentation Center in Berlin dedicated to the history of the National Socialist occupation.

"We hope that our request to build a separate monument in memory of the millions of Ukrainians who died during World War II will be supported," said the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister also informed the President of the Bundestag that with the active support of German partners in Ukraine, decentralization reform is underway and has already proved its effectiveness in improving the quality of public services and bringing them closer to residents of local communities.

Denys Shmyhal thanked Wolfgang Schäuble and members of the Bundestag for supporting Ukraine's territorial integrity and sovereignty and stressed that Ukraine views Nord Stream 2 as a geopolitical threat to the whole of Europe.

In addition, the Prime Minister expressed the expectation that Germany would play an active role in the de-occupation of Crimea, in particular within the new Crimean Platform initiative.
