“Our business has been absolutely stressed by COVID-19, and we have been hit in a way I can say that by the end of the year, we will probably have 25 to 40 percent off the top line,” the German designer said.
The designer brought the super-yacht life to a short film shot on the coast of his hometown Monaco, and cleverly titled, “I Know What You Did Next Summer.”
Giuliano Calza put his own spin on the digital show, with busty artificial human models, realistic digitized Latex drapes and folds, and Dua Lipa, Anwar Hadid, Chiara Ferragni, Fedez and Care Bears avatars sitting front row.
“I wanted to create a humble space, not a flashy one,” said the designer, hinting at how his approach differs from his European neighbors.
His spring collection was designed with “new money, the smell of Champagne and pimpish Cadillacs” in mind.
“We bucked the downward trend with two big initiatives,” said president Jon Zeiders.
Designers Mike Eckhaus and Zoe Latta celebrated comfort and craft in a live streamed show along the East River that perfectly conveyed the together-alone pandemic moment.
There were plenty of designer dresses and diamonds galore, even if we could only see most of it from the waist up.
Without deep-pocketed investors behind them, it was a testament to the spirit of creativity and survival that so many American designers were able to get it together to show at all. And the problem-solving was inspiring.
