Get that funding! And if it would help to have a bioethicist with long-COVID/PASC *and* experience working on -funded research on your team, you know where to find me.

And it's great that some states now allow people 16+ in higher-risk groups to book appointments, but not everyone has access to the documentation required, like a letter from a physician confirming their condition(s) or lab results, b/c not everyone has a PCP/GP/regular doctor.

A rant for another day, but the multiple types of privilege required to even attempt to make an appointment is staggering: Access to a computer & functioning internet; hours & hours to spend researching & refreshing pages; not just basic computer literacy, but Gen Z-level skills.

Scheduling an appointment for the COVID-19 vaccine for yourself or a loved one is a PROJECT. In an ideal world (though at this point we'd settle for a just-barely-functional one) we wouldn't need this, but here we are:

Global pandemic + vaccine supply/demand + botched rollout + public health crisis + health disparities + privilege/entitlement + mistrust in medicine + inconsistent prioritization groups = legal/ethical challenges of COVID-19 vaccine tourism:

About 10 years ago, while living in Ireland, I attended a conference w/ & it has shaped my career as a journalist & public academic. Her reminder that men don't wait for permission to write or share thoughts about something has been a mantra.

In a hypothetical Ireland where women made up roughly half of politicians and journalists, would the last Mother and Baby home in Rathmines have closed in 1996 or would we have closed that sooner? Would the Cervical Cancer scandal have unfolded the same way? What about Repeal?

The Anti-Flirt Club was an American club active in Washington, D.C., during the early 1920s. The purpose of the club was to protect young women and girls who received unwelcome attention from men in automobiles and on street corners. The club had a series of rules:

Totally fair question! My main beats are ethics, public health, medical research, politics, design/bathroom history, cults, repro/sexual/mental health. But cobbling together an income as a freelance journalist & adjunct professor requires not being precious about assignments.

And the critical need for good reporting in a pandemic is not new. Journalism is a filter, a frame. It takes events and shapes a story around them. No one is asking for news as advocacy, but for some cognizance of the fact that narratives are anything but neutral. 1/

I first met Charlie when he was a month old. I was told to say hello & goodbye, because he had holoprosencephaly & likely wouldn't be around for my next visit. Against all odds (incl. countless surgeries)he turned 10 on 12/3. He died on 1/26 from COVID.

As far as the question of whether Trump will lose the perks that come with being a former president (pension, staff, office, Secret Service protection, etc) that too is up in the air. [The article earlier in the thread explains why.]

And yes, the impeachment process is confusing & parts are still uncertain. Normally we rely on historical precedent, but turns out, no other president has ever pulled anything close to undermining the basis of our democracy & inciting an insurrection 2 weeks before leaving office
