Glenn Beck told listeners to his radio show Wednesday morning that “THEY are banning Dr. Seuss books.”

Who are “they?” Turns out, it’s not some special interest group, but the corporation that has overseen Seuss’s legacy for decades.

Did the company “ban” the author’s work? Not really. It made a choice, based on market conditions, to pull books it deemed racially insensitive.

But surely the free-spirited Suess would disapprove of restrictions to his work. Not so. Turns out that before he died, Theodore Geisl himself — that’s the author’s real name — went back and changed his work after realizing it was racially offensive.
