At long last, America has a new president — and this past week, he got quite the welcoming party. While it was impossible for the White House to host its usual gala for obvious reasons, it still put on a big show for Joe Biden, thanks to the 90-minute special “Celebrating America,” with Tom Hanks as its host. In this week’s episode of Screen Talk, Eric Kohn and Anne Thompson discuss how “Celebrating America” could provide an indication of the shape this year’s Oscar telecast will take. They also touch on some of the upcoming shortlists that could have a big impact on the evolving race. Stay tuned for a special Sundance-themed episode next week.
