French Montana feat. Drake, “No Stylist”

“No Stylist” is the spiritual sequel to Drake and French Montana’s 2016 collaboration “No Shopping,” where the Toronto rapper took shots at rival Joe Budden. This time, he’s got a few words for his longtime frenemy Kanye West, following months of tension connected to Drake’s feud with Pusha T: “Keep it a G, I told her don’t wear no 350s ’round me,” Drake raps, taking aim at Kanye’s Yeezy 350 sneakers.

Young Thug feat. Elton John, “High”
Sounds like:A super-stratospheric meeting of two very different legends
Perfect for:Introducing a new generation to an old classic
Stylish Atlanta rap star Young Thug and legendary British singer Elton John might seem like an unlikely pair, but these two have history. Back in 2016, they met to discuss a new song based on 1972’s classic “Rocket Man.” Two years later, their duet is finally here: “High,” the final track on Young Thug’s new On the Rvn EP, features a crisp vocal sample of Sir Elton over an astonishingly smooth beat. 

Lil Uzi Vert, “New Patek”
Sounds like:A surprisingly optimistic moment from an emo-rap king
Perfect for:Flaunting your iciest watch
Fans of Uzi have heard teases of “New Patek” for months now, on Instagram and in concert. The final product is a five-minute sprint paying tribute to the Japanese anime series Death Paradeand the luxury watch brand Patek Phillipe. Uzi takes his time to flex his new lifestyle as well his fast-rapping skills. It’s a promising first taste of his upcoming album, Eternal Atake. 

Jeff Tweedy, “Some Birds”
Sounds like:A cozy soundtrack for sweater weather
Perfect for:Reading an indie rock vet’s juicy new memoir
Wilco frontman Jeff Tweedy is preparing to release a revealing memoir and his first-ever solo album of original material this fall. The album’s lead single is this cozy, early fall-appropriate indie-folk jam. He’s described “Some Birds” as a “confrontation between self and shadow,” but for Wilco fans, it’s a win-win scenario. 

Cher, “One of Us”
Sounds like:Solemn regret for a fresh heartbreak
Perfect for:Powering through your band’s double divorces
ABBA’s 1981 hit “One of Us,” from their final album, is surprisingly upbeat considering that it’s about back-to-back divorces between the group’s two couples. Cher’s cover for her new ABBA tribute album Dancing Queen,which comes out today, gets right to the pain of the song. Stripped down to just vocals, pianos and strings, Cher makes you feel the heartbreaking story of two people reeling with regret.
