This Month’s Highlights

The Perks of Being a Wallflower

Some things aren’t infinite, and The Perks of Being a Wallflower being on Netflix is one of them. The coming of age story starring Emma Watson (in one of her first major roles post-Harry Potter), Ezra Miller, and Logan Lerman is a highly earnest film that feels perfectly engineered to suit the Tumblr era it debuted in. But maybe that’s because it wasn’t shy to cover the heavier parts of teenage existence. For Charlie (Lerman) and his new high school friends (Watson and Miller), life is so up and down that for every joyous moment — like the “Come On Eileen” dance — there’s also an emotional comedown waiting for you on the other side.
