It sometimes seems like Connecticut is just a campaign stop for presidents of the United States -- hopeful, current and former. Sen. John F. Kennedy chose the Hartford Times portico for a speech on the eve of the 1960 presidential election. President Bill Clinton and Sen. Bob Dole shared the stage at the Bushnell Center for the Performing Arts in 1996 for Hartford's first presidential debate. Sen. Barack Obama drew more than 16,000 people for a speech at the XL Center in 2008, on the eve of the Democratic presidential primary. And yet, the state was the birthplace of a president. Future leaders attended college and graduate school in Connecticut, and current and former commanders in chief received honorary degrees and delivered commencement addresses at local schools and universities. They've attended sporting events, panel discussions, and visited to promote their political agendas and the causes dear to them.
