This means that there are now a total of 527,272 COVID-19 cases in the country.

The February 1 Case Bulletin of DOH also showed 27 recoveries bringing the total number of recoveries to 487,574.

As to the number of deaths, 58 new deaths were recorded which means that there are now a total of 10,807 fatalities due to COVID-19.

Meanwhile, the Health department said the first UK Covid-19 strain patient in the country is already a “closed case” when it comes to contact tracing.

“This case is closed when it comes to the contract tracing,” Health Undersecretary Maria Rosario Vergeire said in a virtual press briefing.
“We have  already identified all those close contacts and they were all tested. They were all quarantined, they were monitored, the genome sequencing are all negative,” she added.

The 29-year old male from Quezon City traveled to Dubai with his girlfriend in December and tested positive for the COVID-19 and the UK variant when screened upon arrival in the country last January 7.

Vergeire said they have already found 71 close contacts of the 12 UK variant cases in Bontoc, Mountain Province as being positive for COVID-19.
She said of the 71,  8 are up for genome sequencing, and 2 have already been cleared for the UK variant.

According to Vergeire, 197 of the 410 total close contacts yielded negative results.
