is the love letter to cinema we urgently need this year, and it's anchored by another masterful turn from Gary Oldman, as well as a truly revelatory performance by Amanda Seyfried, who deserves every acting prize going. I adored this movie.

David Fincher's is a masterpiece, in the truest sense of the word. Absolutely riveting from start to finish; a filmmaker's meditation on the urgency of the creative process through the lens of Hollywood history...

In these trying times thank god for hardworking local reporters like here. They’re the backbone of our media.

The is using the same LED-screen volume/parallax camera they use to shoot The Mandalorian and while the graphics are a little “it’s our first time, give us a break,” it works pretty well.

I am house hunting. And after witnessing with my own two eyes how frequently the homeowners of this country look to the Saw movies for interior design inspiration, I am left to conclude that I just don't know how Nancy Meyers found that cottage from The Holiday.

We all make mistakes. The only path to correcting them is to admit to them, even if they’re unintentional. Hiding from them is tantamount to issuing a megaphone blast. The biggest mistake of all? Messing with . (And if you haven’t read his brilliant book, I recommend it)

I don't care if you're being chased away by a cougar guarding her cubs. That's no excuse to shoot video portrait.

There was a lot to love about Soul. There were a few things to question, too. But you have to admire Pixar's ambition.

Loved chatting with the legend that is . He may have retired from comics but still has plenty of fiery opinions. He doesn't have internet so we chinwagged down the landline for ages, pausing briefly so he could help his wife in with the shopping.

This is truly miserable. It’s not about having to wait a bit longer for a big release. It’s not about cinema being entirely unviable right now. It’s about senior management favouring self-preservation over its own employees.

Then again, the government that has held power for the past decade is using “Build Back Better” as a slogan without any sense of irony, so clearly this kind of behaviour is par for the course.

If I’d mismanaged my business into disaster and treated my staff with contempt I’d try to blame James Bond too.

The kids are alright: in which I meet Millie Bobby Brown (and director Harry Bradbeer) to find out how she masterminded Enola Holmes, a new YA adventure blockbuster for Netlix that seems certain to hit.

Thrilled with lots of the results tonight, and especially thrilled for Jeremy Strong. My piece from earlier in the season:
