    As far as the question of whether Trump will lose the perks that come with being a former president (pension, staff, office, Secret Service protection, etc) that too is up in the air. [The article earlier in the thread explains why.]

    And yes, the impeachment process is confusing & parts are still uncertain. Normally we rely on historical precedent, but turns out, no other president has ever pulled anything close to undermining the basis of our democracy & inciting an insurrection 2 weeks before leaving office

    Going through with the impeachment trial is not pointless. In addition to removal from office, an impeachment conviction also comes with the opportunity for a separate (Senate) vote to ban the person from ever holding public office again. We need that.

    The collective trauma of living through the outgoing administration (COVID-related and in general) is going to be with us for a long time. But if last night’s memorial is any indication of what’s to come over the next 4 years, we’re about to turn a corner.

    Sure, hitting 381K COVID deaths while our democracy disintegrates seems like a great time for a HHS rule allowing LGBTQIA+ discrimination in access to public health services, potentially including adoption & foster-parenting, homelessness, HIV prevention & elder care.

    With little more than a week left the Trump admin. has finalized a rule permitting social-service providers that receive government funds to discriminate based on sexual orientation and gender identity.
