It's almost #ACSSpring2022, and a few of us are trading our windowless basement lab for sunny San Diego! Be sure to check out oral presentations from Lennon () and Qilin, and posters from Kayla () and Jessica ()!

Vietnamese and other peoples of Southeast Asia have naming conventions very much different from those in the Anglosphere. For us, writing our names overseas is a big headache. Let me first explain Vietnamese names, then I'll touch on names in other cultures.

At the same time that MIT stopped requiring indoor masking, the institute also stopped requiring weekly covid testing for students. Admin really just doesn't want to deal with this anymore 🙄

He even highlighted the part about individuals not being allowed to even REQUEST that someone mask.

To any grad students still wondering how their peers can afford studio apartments, brand new cars, take-out, regular restaurant trips, concerts, fancy vacations on a grad student stipend: they can’t. They’re probably being supported by family. It’s not you unable to manage $$

Normalize describing all methods in a paper, even if they were done "as described in [16]."
Because [16] did it "as described by [9]", and [9] cites an abstract from the 70s that is unavailable. 🤦♂

The administration, via the Chancellor and Provost, wrote yesterday that "we do not believe that unionization is the most constructive path forward for our graduate students." Today they provided faculty a set of talking points to address their graduate students,

Seeing these black IKA plates (vs the old blue ones) feels like seeing the dark, edgy reboot of a TV show from my childhood

When you've been doing chemistry (or any science?) long enough, your definition of "sexy" can expand in funny ways.
Example: these hotplates from @IKAworldwide are sexy AF. Straight... fire...?

The level of experimentation happening in twenty-something girls' bathrooms all over the country is the pipeline I dream of empowering. Recruiting directly in the sephora comments. Have you READ those comments? They're literally methods sections

is it just me or is the “4 tests per residential address thing kinda weird?
like what happens if you’re a poor college student with 7 other roommates in a little apartment? who gets to use the tests?

People are out here justifying not getting vaccinated by asking others if they trust their immune systems. Like??? I don’t trust my immune system. That bitch saw my thyroid and decided it was an unnecessary organ. She sees dust and decides the best reaction is death.
