General Kansas Student-Athletes Thriving in the Classroom

Kansas Athletics’ student-athletes thrived in the classroom during the 2020 fall semester, boasting a fall-semester record 3.31 department grade-point average. Additionally, 15 of the teams recorded a GPA of 3.00 or higher, nearly matching the Jayhawks’ 3.00 GPA achieved by every team during the 2020 spring semester.

As Chancellor Girod announced moments ago, the Pandemic Medical Advisory Team (PMAT) has made the recommendation to allow fans at our home athletics events beginning on Monday, December 7 through Monday, December 14. However, the women’s basketball game this Sunday vs. Oral Roberts will remain without fans in attendance.

General Jayhawk Cherishes New Ring for 1957 Men’s Basketball Season

Dr. Gary Thompson of Scottsdale, Arizona, received a special order 1957 NCAA ring for his 84th birthday, some 60-plus years after helping KU to a runner-up finish in one of the most memorable championship games in NCAA Tournament history. No. 2 Kansas fell to No. 1 North Carolina, 54-53, in triple overtime that March Saturday in Kansas City.

John Hadl, one of the Jayhawk football legends enshrined in Memorial Stadium’s Ring of Honor, is the 2020 recipient of the Fred Ellsworth Medallion for his lifelong service to the University of Kansas.
