The Mandel Institute of Jewish Studies was the first research and teaching Institution to be established in the Hebrew University since its inception in 1925. It is the largest of its kind in the world and has seventy tenured fellows (researchers/teachers) and about another seventy untenured young fellows. The Institute trains over 140 PhD students of different fields of Jewish Studies yearly. Many of its members have been world leaders in their field, and have been awarded with notable awards, such as The Israel Prize or The EM'T Prize, awarded annually by the Israeli government.
