This morning, Kensington Palace shared some news ahead of Prince William's visit to the Passage Charity: Will has taken on the organization as one of his patronages, ensuring that he will work particularly closely with the group in the years to come.
And just why had the prince chosen to take the Passage Charity, an organization serving homeless and housing-insecure people, under his wing? Undoubtedly, he's committed to serving the homeless population—but it also might have something to do with his late mother, Princess Diana.
The palace gave the announcement context with a photo of Prince William, Prince Harry, and Princess Diana at the Passage Charity in 1993. Apparently, on the young prince's first visit to the organization, he'd been accompanied by his mother and brother.
They even managed to secure an image of their signatures in the 1993 guestbook (Diana's was a lot bigger than William's, it seems).
Since then, Prince William has visited Passage Charity several more times, ultimately leading him to become its royal patron. "The visits I made as a child to this place left a deep and lasting impression upon me—about how important it is to ensure that everyone in our society, especially the poorest, are treated with respect, dignity and kindness, and are given the opportunities to fulfill their potential in life," he said in a statement.
William marked the news today with yet another visit to the charity, in which he prepared and served food in the organization's kitchen, and met clients and volunteers from its "Home for Good" program.
