Passport Agencies

COVID-19 Update: Status of Passport Agencies and Centers

All of our agencies and centers are processing passport applications. To prevent the spread of COVID-19 and protect our workforce and customers, we are prioritizing in-person appointments at our agencies and centers for customers who are traveling internationally in the next 72 hours (3 business days) due to a life-or-death emergency. Many agencies and centers are also offering limited appointments for customers who have urgent international travel in the next 72 hours (3 business days) for reasons other than a life-or-death emergency. Customers must wear cloth face coverings in all common areas, including our lobbies, and observe strict social distancing.

The phases of reopening describe how our staff are returning safely to work. In phase zero, mission critical staff return to onsite work. In phase one, limited staff return to onsite work. In phase two, most staff return to onsite work. In phase three, all staff at an agency or center return to onsite work.

To apply at a passport agency, you must follow all of these requirements:

  • Make an appointment online or call us at 1-877-487-2778
  • Be traveling internationally within 72 hours (3 business days)
  • Be able to show printed proof of international travel (such as your flight itinerary, hotel reservation, cruise tickets, or international car insurance)
  • Pay the $60 expedite fee in addition to the regular application fees.
  • Note: you can schedule your appointment up to 2 weeks before your international travel but the date of your appointment must be within 3 business days of your international travel. If you need a foreign visa, the date of your appointment must be within 10 business days of your international travel.

  • Charleston Passport Center
Status: Phase Two on September 28

The Center has entered phase two of our three-phase reopening plan. Since it first opened in 2000, the Center has been closed to the public so you cannot make an appointment for in-person service at this facility. However, the Center continues to be a high volume passport processing center.
