The Mercers have funded Kelli Ward, Ali Alexander, the Federalist Society, whose former official runs the RAGA arm that sent robocalls, Breitbart, Parler, and a stream of far-right think tanks advancing false theories about the 2020 elections.

This is the whole point. You can respect the First Amendment and still say that a company shouldn’t profit from amplifying Alex Jones and recommending him to every 18 year old on the internet. Make him earn his audience in ways other than lying.

I never hear concerns about how the McDonald’s CEO making $18,012,549 per year might drive up the price of a Big Mac.

But also, upending the system was not just a side effect of the Mercers' political $$, but seemingly the point. “In short, unlike other donors, the Mercers are not merely angling to influence the Republican establishment—they want to obliterate it.”

Part of it is the breadth of the Mercers’ funding: they not only spent millions backing politicians, PACs, & other orgs that promoted the Jan. 6 events, they also financed the information ecosystem (like Parler) where false claims of a stolen election have flourished.

Some donors who helped underwrite the strain of right-wing populism that resulted in the Capitol riots were willing to look past the movement’s anti-democratic tendencies as long as it delivered on tax cuts or deregulation. The Mercers seem different.

  14. Biden needs a team of assholes whose whole job it is to mercilessly and ruthlessly de-Trumpify every inch of the government. Fire every single one of them. If some lawyer says you can’t fire them, take away their office, all their amenities and authorities, relocate all of them,

  15. Corporate Dems (New Dems) won a significant victory with ousting Rep. Porter from Financial Services. Progressives are going to have to be very forceful and more importantly strategic this Congress to ensure Wall Street doesn’t end up with more power.

There's a funny collective amnesia in the US about what happened before 1980 The tax system used to be highly progressive (ahem, 91% top marginal income tax rate)—but hey, never happened The minimum wage was super high from 1938 to 80—but $15 would be unprecedented ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

When we build a stronger relationship between NOLA, the River Parishes, and Baton Rouge we are going to change this state. I believe if we work together our impact will be great. From our last backyard conversation.

As , , & point out, the tax break for the rich that some elements of the Democratic Party are pushing again would be much more expensive than the extra $600 for people in need that many are arguing against.

$1400 < $2000 Math teachers know this. That $600 is already in the clutches of landlords and bill collectors. Stop compromising the working class, and our most vulnerable neighbors.
