Christopher Nolan’s next film believed to be a World War II drama

It is thought to be about the evacuation of Dunkirk

Coming off the back of The Dark Knight trilogy and Interstellar, Christopher Nolan’s next project is very eagerly awaited but so far has been kept under wraps.

Now a few clues seem to be linking together however, with France’s La Voix Du Nord claiming that the director is working on a World War II drama in the country and The Playlist saying that he and his screenwriter brother Jonathan are already scouting locations in Dunkirk.

This marries up with Dunkirk mayor Patrice Vergriete’s recent announcement that “the filming of an American blockbuster would take place in June 2016 by a ‘world-famous director’”.

It is thought that the film will be based on the Miracle of Dunkirk (aka Operation Dynamo), a British military operation that saved more than 330,000 Allied troops who were surrounded by the German army in the harbour and on the beaches.

In his 'We shall fight on the beaches' speech, British Prime Minister Winston Churchill hailed the rescue as a "miracle of deliverance".

I don’t know how excited I am for a Nolan war film - it would have been nice to see him return to something more innovative like Memento - but here’s hoping he can bring a new vitality to the genre.

Back in September, it was announced that Nolan will release his next film again through Warner Bros, and that it has a 21 July, 2017 release date.
