    Horrible situation in Colorado. This is the edge of Lake Granby consumed by the . There’s a couple neighborhoods with dozens of homes tucked back on the right side of the road that fire crews were fighting to save about an hour ago.

    Breaking- Firefighters say the did not burn any homes today or make it into the Estes Valley. Their extra resources made a big difference. Evacuations will stay in place tonight. And will be discussed tomorrow. Snow will be here soon.

    I listened as they hatched a plan to save a town in real time. I listened as they were told there's nobody else available to help. The reply, not anger or frustration or despair. Just: "Ok then, we'll just do the best we can." Yeah, these folks are heroes.

    Listening to the scanner I am bowled over by what these firefighters do. Maintaining situational awareness, driving around in the dark on a burning mountainside, adapting to changing conditions, all to save the homes of people they'll probably never meet.
