Surveys and Programs Contributing to Health

The Census Bureau reports health information from several surveys and programs. It is important to understand that different surveys and methods, which are designed to meet different needs, may produce different results.

American Community Survey (ACS)

The American Community Survey is the premier source for information about America's changing population, housing and workforce.

Annual Capital Expenditures Survey (ACES)

Provides estimates on business spending for new and used structures and equipment.

Annual Survey of Public Employment and Payroll (ASPEP)

Provides state and local government data on full-time and part-time employment, part-time hours worked, full-time equivalent employment, and payroll statistics.

County Business Patterns (CBP)

Provides subnational economic data by industry, including the number of establishments, employment, first quarter payroll, and annual payroll.

Current Population Survey (CPS)

The CPS is a monthly survey sponsored by the Bureau of Labor Statistics and conducted by the U.S. Census Bureau.

Economic Census

The Economic Census provides detailed information on employer businesses, including detailed data by industry, geography, and more.

Longitudinal Employer-Household Dynamics (LEHD)

The LEHD program combines federal, state and Census Bureau data on employers and employees under the Local Employment Dynamics Partnership.

Nonemployer Statistics (NES)

An annual series that provides subnational economic data for businesses that have no paid employees and are subject to federal income tax.

Quarterly Services Survey (QSS)

Provides quarterly estimates on revenue and expenses for selected service industries.

Service Annual Survey (SAS)

Provides estimates of revenue and other measures for most traditional service industries.

Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) Program

The Small Area Health Insurance Estimates (SAHIE) program produces single-year estimates of health insurance coverage for every county in the U.S.

Statistics of U.S. Businesses (SUSB)

Provides detailed annual data for U.S. business establishments by geography, industry, and enterprise size.

Survey of Income and Program Participation (SIPP)

Collects data and measures change for many topics including: economic well-being, family dynamics, education, assets, health insurance, and childcare.
