Mosses

Mosses is located in central Lowndes County in the central part of the state. It has a mayor/city council form of government.

Seeing the need to obtain federal grants for infrastructure and town improvements, Mosses incorporated in 1979 to become eligible for such grants. In 2012, the town received $350,000 to develop a sewer system.

According to the 2016 Census estimates, Mosses had a population of 1,104. Of that number, 99.5 percent of respondents identified themselves as African American and 0.5 percent as white. The town's median household income, according to 2016 Census estimates, was $15,170, and the per capita income was $10,376.

· Public administration (3.4 percent)
· Information (2.0 percent)
· Other services, except public administration (0.3 percent)

Students in Mosses attend the Lowndes County Public Schools. An elementary and a high school lie within Mosses city limits but have Hayneville addresses.

Mosses is served by County Road 2, which runs east-south through the town.
