Fire Prevention Week: October 4-10, 2020

The 2018 American Community Survey estimates there were about 342,000 civilians employed full-time as firefighters, fire inspectors, and supervisors in the U.S.

Leif Erikson Day (Nordic-American heritage): October 9, 2020

The 2019 American Community Survey estimated 10.9M people in the U.S. reported Nordic ancestry (Danish, Finnish, Icelander, Norwegian and Swedish), about 3.3%.

German-American Day: October 6, 2020

The 2019 American Community Survey estimated there were 40.4M people reporting German ancestry out of a total U.S. population of 328.2M, or roughly 12.3%.

National Manufacturing Day: October 2, 2020

On Sept. 2, the U.S. Census Bureau announced shipments for durable goods in 2020 through July declined 9.4% compared to 2019. All manufacturing was down 8.3%.

Polish-American Heritage Month: October 2020

The 2019 American Community Survey estimated the U.S. population at 328.2M and about 9.0M (about 2.7%) reported Polish ancestry.

National Coffee Day: September 29, 2020

U.S. imports of green coffee were valued at $4.6B in 2019, up from $3.4B in 2009 according to foreign trade stats from the U.S. Census Bureau.

Ancestor Appreciation Day: September 27, 2020

From the 2018 American Community Survey, the top reported ancestries in the U.S. are German 41.2M, Irish 30.8M, English 22.8M, American 19.6M and Italian 16.4M.

National Hunting and Fishing Day: September 26, 2020

Unmarried and Single Americans Week: September 20-26, 2020

In 2018, about 45.1% of Americans aged 18 and over, or 112.9 million, were unmarried according to the Current Population Survey.

National Dance Day: September 19, 2020

The 2018 County Business Patterns estimated 656 dance companies in the U.S. with 10,630 employees and an annual payroll of $310 million.

Constitution Day and Citizenship Day: September 17, 2020

The 2018 American Community Survey estimated there were 305.1M citizens and 22.1M noncitizens in the U.S. About 277.1M citizens were born in the U.S.

Mexico Independence Day (1810): September 16, 2020

The U.S. Census Bureau’s Population Clock estimated Mexico’s 2020 population at 128.6M and the U.S. at 329.9M, the world’s 10th and 3rd most populous countries.

National Stepfamily Day: September 16, 2020

In 2018, the American Community Survey estimated there were about 3.9 million stepchildren of the householder. Of those, 2.4 million were under 18 years old.
