    This raccoon at Florida Keys NWR was searching for breakfast in the red mangrove prop roots. raccoons spend a lot of time in the marshes, and they are opportunistic omnivores, meaning they eat just about anything they can get their hands on. 📷Kristie Killam/USFWS

    The current greater sage-grouse population is less than a 1/4 of what it was 50 years ago. A recent report from details one of the most comprehensive trend modeling efforts ever undertaken for the greater sage-grouse:

    Look at these "lekky" ladies getting a performance! During spring, greater sage-grouse congregate on "leks" where males dance in hopes of attracting a mate. They dance by puffing their chests, booming air sacs (the yellow things on their chests), & fanning their tails. 📸

    Cedar Breaks National Monument sits at over 10,000 feet and looks down into a 1/2 mile deep geologic amphitheater. The bristlecone pines that live here, some of which are over 1000 years old, thrive in this high elevation. Pic by Jessica Fridrich ().
