Live at the Athenaeum

Jane Franklin Dance presents a performance streamed live from The Athenaeum, home to Northern Virginia Fine Arts Association.  Enjoy a Zoom performance event that is filled with interactive moments and real time performance, all from the ease of your own living room.

  •  Do Not Touch – Experience an agreeable cast of characters negotiating themes of opposition through movement, words and images. See the interplay of an ordinary discussion about the weather and the group dynamics involved in creating compromise.  Nothing to argue about? It’s merely the weather and a difference of opinion.  Interactions combine in a non-linear narrative and it’s not just Covid-19 that limits the touch. When it’s all said and done, everyone can shake hands and walk away.
  • 1 X 7 – Seven one minute solos react to artworks from NVFAA’s current exhibit “Moments in Time . . .  a very weird time,” an exhibit about the pandemic.  The solos are performed in side-by-side juxtaposition with artworks by Elliott Hamilton, Ellyn Weiss, Sweta Shah, Christine Zmuda and others.
  • Wire Works (video from The Athenaeum Feb 24, 2018) – Visual artist Ellyn Weiss’s show “Form and Void” began with Ellyn’s consideration of extremophiles, organisms that live in the most hostile environments on earth—extreme heat and cold, toxic materials, radioactivity, without oxygen, etc. The visual art is interpreted by the moving body in an overarching connection to environment. Spoken word: Ellyn Weiss
  • Post performance Q & A
  • Fightin’ Words – Presented as part of VelocityDC Dance Festival in 2016, Fightin’ Words video presentation includes music performed live by Luke Chohany. With original music compositions by American fiddler Patrick McAvinue that combine aspects of bluegrass, swing, and Celtic music, the dance is a bombastic romp of fist shakin’ cartoon carrying-on fun. (presented with other Live at the Athenaeum content on Vimeo on Demand beginning Oct 6)
