Are you looking to learn new skills, make friends or get involved in one of our exciting projects at Reading Museum and Reading Abbey Quarter?  Volunteering is a brilliant way to do this and support our work. 

Volunteering opportunities 

We offer a range of volunteering roles throughout the year. We recruit volunteers for specific roles rather than accept general applications.

  • Join our Welcome Team as an Events volunteer to help out at our fun themed events and activities throughout the year

How to apply

It's quick and easy to apply for a volunteering role. There are three basic steps - the documents can be downloaded from the bottom of this page:

1. Have a look at the role descriptions for our current vacancies
2. Read our volunteer policy
3. Fill in the registration form and email it to the address on the role description

Investing in Volunteers

Reading Museum is committed to providing training and ongoing support to our volunteers to help them flourish in their roles. We are delighted to announce that we have now achieved the Investing in Volunteers national standard, for the third time, as part of the Museums Partnership Reading with The Museum of English Rural Life (The MERL). Our assessment report is available to download below.

What do our volunteers do?
