Steve Campion
Steve Campion joined the ABC13 Eyewitness News team in April 2014 as a multi-media journalist. He prides himself on covering all aspects of a story from shooting, to writing, and editing the pieces. Steve left his home state of Florida for a new and bigger challenge here in Houston, one he's happy to embark on at KTRK-TV.

Steve grew up in South Florida in the coastal community of Deerfield Beach and attended high school in Fort Lauderdale. He left the Miami area to attend college at the University of Florida in Gainesville. He was fortunate to study abroad twice, in Belgium and in Italy. During his junior summer, Steve returned home and interned with WTVJ/NBC6 as an associate producer. There, he sharpened his writing skills and got a taste for big market news.

Just a year later, Steve graduated Magna Cum Laude from UF with two degrees in Telecommunication-News and Political Science. He landed his first on-air job shortly after at WCJB-TV20 News in Gainesville. Steve quickly learned how stories can unfold in unexpected ways. His storytelling took him across North Central Florida. One of the more interesting experiences included covering Pastor Terry Jones, who stirred controversy and international condemnation for burning the Koran.

Steve then accepted a position with Waterman Broadcasting in Southwest Florida. His storytelling with NBC2/ABC7 stretched across the Sunshine State. He covered the area's largest city Cape Coral, threatening tropical storms, and led coverage on Congressman Trey Radel's resignation following his cocaine bust. In the fall of 2013, Steve traveled to the D.C. courtroom where the politician admitted to buying the drug on city streets. In March of 2014, Steve was honored as an Associated Press finalist for his stories involving dirty water being dumped into the Gulf of Mexico, compliments of controversial water management practices.

Outside the newsroom, Steve loves to explore the outdoors and travel. He's excited to check out the Lone Star State.
