FRANKFORT, Ky. (FOX19) - Kentucky’s seven-day average positivity rate is going up and Gov. Andy Beshear said it is not because of more testing.
4.92% is the current positivity rate in Kentucky, the governor announced.
That number is up from Tuesday’s 4.37%.
This increase is not because more testing is being done, Gov. Beshear explained.
He said the reason the seven-day average positivity rate is increasing is that more people being tested are showing positive results.
“Our positivity rate has gone up,” the governor said. “That is a concern and that shows it’s not just an increase in testing, it’s more people that are being tested are showing positive results. That’s why we’re going to do what it takes to defeat the coronavirus.”
As of Wednesday’s press conference, 560,161 tests had been conducted statewide, according to the Kentucky Department of Public Health (KDPH).
518 more COVID-19 cases were reported by the governor Wednesday in Kentucky.
The latest cases include almost 60 from some of the Northern Kentucky counties:
- Boone County - 22 new COVID-19 cases
- Campbell County - 12 new COVID-19 cases
- Kenton County - 24 new COVID-19 cases
COVID-19 cases in kids under the age of 10 increased by 28% in the past week, the data from the state health department shows.
Kids in that age group account for 794 of the total COVID-19 cases in Kentucky, according to the state’s data.
One week ago, 620 cases in kids under 10-years-old were reported.
Kentucky’s total number of cases is now 24,540, according to the KDPH data.
The state’s death toll is now 677 after the governor announced three more deaths on Wednesday.
