The Bloomberg Data Management Services (DMS) make data fully transparent and accessible, providing Chief Data Officers (CDOs) with unparalleled control, quality and visibility across their organizations.
Through sophisticated, private-cloud-based data management capabilities and integrated tools, DMS allow organizations to streamline the acquisition, management and distribution of instrument, pricing, index, legal and ratings data from multiple sources.
Using the resulting insights into its data universe, DMS enable firms to turn data processing from an operational burden into a competitive advantage.

Bloomberg Data Management Services are flexible and customizable, helping asset managers, broker dealers, custodians, hedge funds and banks control costs, improve data quality and meet regulatory reporting deadlines as firms manage more and increasingly complex financial data. Here’s how DMS improve data sourcing, increase transparency, ensure data quality and generate insights:
Expand your universe
The DMS offer multiple ways to grow and expand your universe to explore new data interests. You can key instrument identifiers directly into the user interface, submit them in a file or use standard software tools to programmatically add interests via APIs. The DMS also come with built-in integration for Bloomberg’s Asset Investment Manager (AIM) trading platform — automatically adding instruments to your universe based on pre- or post-trade bookings in AIM, speeding up processing times and providing a centralized source for feeding data to accounting or risk management systems.
View raw data
The DMS populate reference data for your data universe from bulk-feed files and external vendor services. As vendor data is brought into the system, you can view the raw data in its original structure, thus making it easier to triage data issues with vendors. After the data is mastered, DMS provide complete visibility and traceability for your data, helping you to accurately analyze a field value’s lineage.
Simplify vendor management
The DMS manage the complexities associated with collecting your source data across multiple suppliers and feed formats. More than 30 major data vendors and specialist providers deliver their data directly to DMS. These vendors include Bloomberg, Refinitiv, IHS Markit, SIX Financial Information, Morningstar, Fact Set, MSCI, S&P Global Market Intelligence, FTSE Russell, FITCH, Moody’s, DBRS, eMBS, Exchange Data International, Mergent and WM Datenservice.
Prevent contamination
Bad data wastes time, increases costs, weakens decision-making and makes it harder to execute a data strategy. To prevent bad data from entering your data universe, DMS check and flag incoming data for problems relating to file lateness, format and accuracy. Dashboards provide users with additional metrics that enable quick identification of issues and navigation to the relevant fields.
Refresh regularly
Data must be refreshed regularly to ensure that your universe includes the latest and most accurate market data available. The DMS run scheduled activities against the universe several times a day and perform refresh operations on all active instruments in the universe. The standard schedule consists of several regional operations timed to refresh the universe and market data shortly after different regional markets close. The refresh schedule can be adjusted to meet your firm’s needs.
Explore with ease
Cleansed data in the universe is represented in a rich, structured data model with more than 11,000 searchable fields across 1,300 different panels. Navigate your data through the web-based Data Management Workstation, which features screens that organize the data intuitively and sensibly — far easier to explore than a flat file structure.
See historical data
Trace historical versions of all data records in your universe and observe rate of change over time. Drill back to the raw vendor data used to populate each field and view the processing rules that were used to arrive at the golden copy values.
Surface key information
Each organization’s data universe has its own unique requirements, including instrument asset classes, vendor hierarchies, price tolerances, custom fields and custom validations. The DMS enable firms to add identifiers, configure hierarchies, define price tolerances and control the data that is requested from vendors through customized fields and rules.
Publish to controlled subscribers
Once instrument data is cleansed and error-free, it can be published to consumers in standardized formats and channels such as XML and CSV or over APIs and Bloomberg Connectivity & Integration Solutions (CIS).
Automate data cleansing
To protect your data universe, DMS provide automated cleansing of data across multiple critical data sets via thousands of standard business rules. Exceptions are collated in exception dashboards, where they can be tracked and assigned as tasks for operators to resolve. Full audit trail and archiving are available.
Repair records
When records breach rules or conditions during manufacturing, DMS will send alerts and hold them in a pending state so they don’t pollute your universe. You can choose to have your own team repair these records or ask our global Data Operations team to fix them as an additional service.
Access expert guidance
Clients have the option of leveraging our experienced data operations teams (based in Europe, the U.S. and Asia) to provide expert data cleansing and remediation services, in addition to or instead of managing exceptions on their own. Under our fully managed service option, the Bloomberg team runs validations and performs checks based on the data supply chain and resolves delays or issues with vendor data.
Produce timely reports
The DMS provide a rich set of control, export, validation and status-check reports that firms can extract and use to drive their own processes. Standard reports include exception analysis, field overrides, workflow effort and quality reports; firms can easily define and add custom reports. With its end-to-end transparency and a full audit trail, DMS reduce the regulatory reporting burden.
Drive decisions
Firms can use metrics gathered by DMS to better understand data patterns and behaviors; these insights can be used to achieve better business outcomes. Easy-to-read graphs and trend maps highlight insights such as which consumers are driving the most volume, which supplier data has the most quality issues and which custom fields are in highest demand.
Apply cutting-edge insights
In addition to traditional rear-view analysis, DMS use advanced statistical and machine-learning techniques to produce forward-looking insights such as volume forecasts, seasonal variances, trend alerts and historical peer movements. These insights can improve planning and cost-effectiveness.
The DMS process all data types available through our vendor partners, including security master, pricing, indices and index constituents, legal entity data, regulatory data and product-issuer data linking across all asset classes and regions. Bloomberg continuously adds new vendor partners to our community.
