Saban, Newsome on board of directors of minority coaches group led by ex-Alabama OC

Former Alabama offensive coordinator Mike Locksley is forming a new group for minority football coaches.

A former Alabama assistant coach is forming a group for minority football coaches.

Mike Locksley, the Crimson Tide offensive coordinator in 2018 and current Maryland head coach, is announcing the formation of the National Coalition of Minority Football Coaches, NFL.com reported.

There will be some Alabama influence in the leadership.

Nick Saban is one of 11 board of directors along with former Tide star Ozzie Newsome, the first Black general manager of an NFL team.

The organization’s goal is to find and promote the hiring of minority coaches while also creating a list of candidates vetted by board members, according to NFL.com.

The NCMFC board of directors:

-- Bill Polian, former NFL GM

-- Mike Tomlin, Steelers head coach

-- Doug Williams, Washington Football Team executive

-- Oliver “Buddy” Pough, South Carolina State head coach

-- Willie Jeffries, first Black head coach at Division I level

-- Chris Grier, Dolphins GM

-- Debbie Yow, retired basketball coach/college athletics administrator

-- Rick Smith, former Houston Texans GM

-- Desiree Reed-Francois, UNLV AD, first Hispanic female and woman of color AD at an FBS school.
