12 chimps living at the Primate Research Institute of Kyoto University (KUPRI)
The Chimpanzees of Bossou and Nimba is another website presented by KUPRI. It promotes their research and conservation of wild chimpanzees living in Bossou and Nimba, Republic of Guinea, West Africa.
Kumamoto Sanctuary (KS), the first chimpanzee sanctuary in Japan, is a sister institute of KUPRI. KS has been working hard to improve physical and psychological well-being of 52 chimps and 6 bonobos currently kept at the facility.
Kyoto University started a new leading graduate program in "Primatology and Wildlife Science" (PWS) in 2013. PWS aims to provide a new generation of trained professionals to protect the environment by conserving wildlife, informing the public and developing overseas outreach.
The Japan Monkey Centre (JMC) is a registered museum responsible for producing the journal Primates - the oldest English-language Primatology journal. JMC also runs a unique zoo, specializing in nonhuman primates, housing about 850 individuals representing 60+ different species.
Support for African /Asian Great Apes (SAGA) is a non-profit organization founded in 1998. SAGA have hosted meeting for research, conservation, and animal welfare on the African and Asian Great Apes. Most of the ape researchers working in Japan as well as zoo people, conservationists, and others have joined the meeting.
