A 19-year-old has been charged in the shooting the shooting death of a 42-year-old man found slain earlier this month in his Fairfield home.

Carterious Garcell Dees, of Birmingham, is charged with murder in the June 1 killing of Kencasiko Bryant. The victim was found shot to death in his home and his 2018 gray Chevrolet Malibu was missing.

Jefferson County sheriff’s investigators later found the stolen vehicle in the Ensley area. Sgt. Joni Money said evidence found in the vehicle led them to Dees. In an interview with detectives, Dees said he met Bryant through a social media app and the two had agreed to meet.

Once at Bryant’s home, the two got into a disagreement and Dees killed Bryant, Money said. Dees then took the victim’s wallet and fled in Bryant’s vehicle.

Dees was booked into the Jefferson County Jail just before 5 p.m. Tuesday on charges of murder and theft of property. He remains held on bonds totaling $110,000.
