DC government requested churches close, in addition to already closed schools and theaters. Even private dances were discouraged.
Plans were begun to send nurses into private homes of influenza patients, as what would be called the public health nursing service–12 nurses had been recruited so far.
Health Commissioner Fowler sounded an (insanely) optimistic note–that everything would be well in hand “in a day or two…”:
