Unfortunately the weak link on Oakland’s 61st St bikeway will still be the dangerous crossing of San Pablo Ave, which is responsible for. A bus/bike project could happen there on San Pablo as early as 2023, but we shouldn’t have to wait that long for a safer crossing.

61st Street is up for paving next month, along with bike boulevard upgrades. It will connect between the new Lowell St bike boulevard & Emeryville’s Doyle St bike boulevard, forming Oakland’s first-ever bike route through the Golden Gate neighborhood.

Now if she gets symptoms shortly we can’t know if it’s side effects from the vaccine or actual covid. This also puts my senior mom who moved in w us at risk. WTF , why aren’t you administering vaccines to staff outside!?

My partner, who works for Kaiser, got the vaccine today (yay!). But to get it they made her wait in a conference room for 30 mins w ~50 other people. It’s the most exposure she’s had since the start of the pandemic (boo!).

And I'm going to assume that Ballew's question was rhetorical trolling with no interest in the answer, but it's pretty gross when electeds aren't even aware of the recent deaths of their constituents on corridors they're making decisions about.

"The council voted 6-1 to go forward with changing the lane configuration. Vice Mayor Pete Ballew cast the lone no vote.

“What’s driving this?” Ballew said. “Have we had some close calls with bicyclists in terms of collisions? Or near misses? Or is it grant money that’s driving this?”"
"Ric Acosta, 38, was arrested July 2 following an investigation into the June 28 collision that eventually killed San Lorenzo resident Mark Moore. Moore died two days later.

Multiple people called San Leandro police at about 7:40 p.m. on June 28 to report the incident near Hesperian Boulevard and Drew Street in San Leandro, police said.

Callers told dispatchers that Moore, 52, was riding south on the shoulder of Hesperian Boulevard when Acosta's Lexus sedan struck him, according to police. The car then left the scene."

"SAN LEANDRO. Plans are underway to change a portion of one of the city’s busiest thoroughfares from 6 traffic lanes to 4 in a bid to make it safer for cyclists.

The switch will happen on Hesperian Boulevard between Fairmont Drive near Bayfair Center and Springlake Drive, a little north of Interstate 238. That stretch of road can have as many as 30,000 vehicles passing along it each day, according to the city.

The street already has bicycle lanes. But now in the works are plans to upgrade the road, including repaving in some places — and that has prompted city officials to consider long-term ways the street can be reconfigured to make the bike lanes safer.

That might include installing a concrete median between cyclists and motorized traffic, a concrete median with shrubs and other landscaping, using plastic bollards as a barrier, or changing the alignment of parking so that vehicles are farther away from the curb as a way to create a lane for cyclists to travel nearer the curb."

More upgrades to the bike/walk path have been installed on the Marin side, and Richmond should start work on even better connections on their side later this year too. January will likely see the 100,000th bridge path user, could it be you?

An Oakland hills car crash yesterday resulted in injuries, power outages, fire risk. Reminder that every time someone decides to bus, BART, bike, walk, or carpool instead of drive solo, it’s one less chance for stuff like this to happen.
