Apple iOS 11 update - Oxford University Press' 32-bit apps

Due to the recent iOS 11 update to Apple devices, some of our apps need an update. It will not be possible to start the apps until they are updated. When you try to open the app, you will see an error: "the developer of this app needs to update it to work with iOS 11".

The apps listed below show this problem after the iOS 11 update. Other OUP apps show no problems.

We are currently working on the changes with our app developers. We will update this page soon with more information on the following apps:

  • Oxford Picture Dictionary 2nd Edition
  • Oxford Picture Dictionary 2nd Edition Unit 1
  • Headway Phrase-a-day
  • Headway Phrase-a-day lite
  • Solutions 2nd Edition (all levels)

The following apps do not have planned updates and are no longer available:

  • Potato Pals
  • English File Pronunciation*
  • English File Pronunciation Demo

*English File Pronunciation is available on the Say it: Pronunciation from Oxford app. Find it on the App Store and Google Play.

Apple OSX.9 Update

Since the recent release of OSX.9 Mavericks. We have identified a compatibility issue with some of our CD/DVD-ROM titles. On inserting these titles into a computer, users are presented with an error message informing them that "the application quit unexpectedly". We're currently working on how to resolve this issue, but in the meantime we can advise the following workaround. Please copy the full contents of the disc to a hard-drive location on your machine. Click the 'start.app' file, and the program will run without error.

How do I use my MultiROM?

Your MultiROM is both a CD-ROM (containing interactive activities) and an audio CD (containing listening material) on one disk.

  • To play recordings of songs and exercises in the book: use in your CD player. You can also use your computer (using software such as Windows Media Player) to access the listening material, but you will need to 'Exit' the interactive activities first.
  • To play interactive games: use in your computer.
