USGS Researcher Michael Dettinger Named 2018 American Association for the Advancement of Science Fellow
Research hydrologist Dr. Michael Dettinger, whose work has contributed greatly to the understanding of the interconnectedness of climate and water supplies in the Western U.S., is among this year’s AAAS Fellows.
USGS Scientist Dr. Craig D. Allen Named Ecological Society of America Fellow
The U.S. Geological Survey is celebrating the achievements of Dr. Craig D. Allen, who was recently named an Ecological Society of America (ESA) fellow for making exceptional contributions to a broad array of ecology. Dr. Allen, a research ecologist with the USGS Fort Collins Science Center, joins 27 other newly-initiated ESA fellows from academia, public and private sectors. Fellows are elected for life.

USGS scientist James “Barry” Grand, Ph.D., has been named a 2016 U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service Recovery Champion (Region 7) for his exemplary long-term research on two formerly threatened species, the spectacled eider and Alaska-breeding Steller’s eiders.
USGS Deputy Director Receives Presidential Rank Award
Bill Werkheiser, USGS Deputy Director, has been honored with a 2016 Presidential Rank Award as a Distinguished Rank recipient. Mr. Werkheiser is among only one percent of career Federal leaders recognized for “sustained extraordinary accomplishment” with the top award bestowed to civilian employees by the U.S. President.
