Riggs Washington DC sits on the iconic downtown corner of 9th and F Street in a historic building once home to Riggs National Bank, known as the “Bank of Presidents", and is reimagined for the modern traveler in the city’s thriving Penn Quarter. The property features 181 guest rooms and suites – each reminiscent of a private safety deposit box, paying homage to the building’s legacy – in addition to Café Riggs, our all-occasion European brasserie-inspired café, and Silver Lyan, a subterranean from the internationally-acclaimed, London-based Mr Lyan team. Café Riggs celebrates its traditional European influences through an unexpected lens, offering comforting fare, reimagined favorites, and an expansive plant-based menu – including delights such as croque monsieur, caviar grilled cheese, and sunchoke with freekeh and honey. By night, the bar at Café Riggs features a concise, approachable wine list as well as classic cocktails and a tightly curated food menu to accompany the evening atmosphere. Riggs’ lower level is home to Silver Lyan, a subterranean cocktail bar by an internationally acclaimed bartender and Lore Group’s Global Bar Innovator Ryan Chetiyawardana (aka “Mr Lyan”).

Stayed for a couple of midweek evenings in late February. From the moment I alighted from the cab, I was welcomed and guided through one of the best hotel stays that I can recall. I was checked in early (11 AM) and upgraded to a suite which was lovely and grateful for as I had been up since 4 that morning. The hotel is beautiful and opened earlier this month in what was formerly the historic Riggs bank building. The cafe is extraordinary and received a rave review in the Post that was published on the last day of my stay. I had the pleasure of dining there for lunch and dinner later with friends. The food and service are impeccable. If you want to feel like you are famous or just special stay here! Thank you to Menen Christina Ben Billy and Zach for making my stay so memorable. I will surely be back!

Hotel's Favorite
I loved so many aspects of this hotel and my stay here that I'm not sure where to start. The design team has kept so many details that will remind guests that they are staying in what was once a bank. The check in desk is reminicent of those a bank teller would use. The main lounge and restaurant (Riggs Cafe) space has a three-story high ceiling with beautiful, original (I believe) columns. You need to check out Silver Lyan the bar/lounge downstairs (rez required) because it is amazing! The guest rooms are really cool with many "bank" details including using a small "vault" as the minibar. And, the beds were super comfy. I didn't use the gym, but it looked like it was a nice size and had everything you'd need (Pelaton incl.). The staff is very welcoming and helpful - no too-cool-for-school, luxury hotel attitude - which is really nice for a high-end hotel. Plus, it's in a great location of Penn Quarter. Highly recommend!

jj4580, Thank you for your detailed feedback and excellent rating! Our designer, Jacu Strauss, was committed to honoring the heritage and history of our historic building which I am thrilled resonated during your exploration of our property. A critical component for our guest experience was to ensure we provide a refreshingly personal reprieve from the scripted, tired, cookie cutter luxury hospitality norm via letting each and every team members personalities shine in our interactions. We want the Riggs experience to be a energizing one that simply allows you, our valued guest, to leave happier than when you arrived. I am ecstatic we succeeded in doing so, greatly appreciate your feedback and hope to welcome you back many times in the future here at Riggs, your home away from home in DC! We stayed here for one night in February when driving back up the east coast from Florida. The hotel opened just a few weeks ago, but we decided to give them a shot. The customer service was amazing, the valet was great from the start. Greeting us, shaking our hands, and offering to help with bags, opening doors, etc. Honestly, fantastic customer service by that whole team (despite me turning down their offers). At check-in, we had equally great service. We were travelling with our two children, and they gave them both gifts (Riggs bears). Rooms were clean and comfortable. The hotel is within walking distance to many activities, no need to cabs/Uber. The Valet pointed us in the direction of the monuments and we just walked a couple of blocks and were right there. We will be back again!

I had the opportunity to stay at the Riggs during one of their first weekends open during a staycation in the District. While I had some reservations about staying at a hotel so recently opened, I was met with wonderful hospitality and an incredibly friendly staff looking to impress. The hotel itself is a beautiful property converted from a historic bank, and is located in a fantastic location in downtown DC that is walking distance to the National Mall, offices and businesses, and many upscale dining and shopping locations. The room was extremely comfortable for the duration of my stay; however I spent much of my time downstairs at Cafe Riggs and the Silver Lyan, the bar downstairs. The menu and service and Cafe Riggs and Silver Lyan were absolutely top notch, especially considering that they had just opened. I would choose to eat at Cafe Riggs over just about any restaurant in DC - their caviar grilled cheese is something special and worth trying. The cocktails and ambiance at Silver Lyan were fantastic and I would recommend to anyone visiting.

TheRemington, Thank you for your excellent rating and for being our valued guest here at the brand new Riggs Washington DC! We are pleased to offer both a refreshing reprieve from both the scripted, robotic hospitality norm and the notion that F&B outlets within a hotel here in the US can't offer a worthy F&B experience in their own. As a new independent property word of mouth and recommendation such as yours are paramount to our successes and we thank you for taking the time to share your experience. We will see you in the hopeful near future! Dieter Schmitz, CHA Area General Manager

My wife and I just spent a week in DC and had an amazing time topped off the wonderful experience we had at the Riggs. The staff at the Riggs really do make it special, I will give a big shout out to Christopher the doorman/bellman. It seemed like everytime we turned around he was there to help and give a friendly hello. The front desk also went above and beyond to help answer every question we had (which was a lot since it was our first trip to DC) and to help us when we needed to change rooms. Now I will say they have a few things they could do to make this hotel a little bit better but they are new. I will list a few of the things I think they could improve upon or just little adjustments that I would appreciate if we stay there again. A) Having free bottled water in the lobby or room, I have stayed at many hotels that have this and I really appreciate it. Especially with no vending machines on premises, would have been nice to get something to drink. B) Only put single people i the rooms with the TINY bathroom... our first room had a bathroom so small you literally had to stand on the toilet or behind it to open and close the door.... they did change us the next morning and did it with a smile. C) Always have coffee available in the AM... the first morning we did not have any in our lobby and when I asked for some at the front desk I ended up paying $5.50 for a small cup at the bar. Ok that is all the negativity we had the entire week, now I will mention some of the best features. A) Location Location Location.. you are about 4 blocks from the Smithsonian of Natural History and the White House in the other direction. Also you are literally backed up to the super interesting Ford Museum, in fact the gentleman at the front desk told me they use the same ally to enter that Booth used to escape... wow talk about a big part of history. B) Great food locations all around, unfortunately we never did eat in the restaurant onsite because it is mostly seafood and I really do not care for the smell of seafood when I am eating but so many options around you can always find something great. C) The incredible style of the hotel, from the seating in the bar to the incredible architecture of the building itself it really is spectacular. If you are thinking about staying at this place I would say DO IT DO IT DO IT... just bring your own water ;) T & H from Minnesota!
