Don't stay in this hotel while there is a volley ball convention

4.0 of 5 bubblesReviewed Mar 11, 2020
We stay in Marriott brand because the standard of their room, bed and cleanliness, in addition to lounge access. What set one aside is their service and their food in the lounge. This hotel is right by the convention center and able to walk to some of the DC attractions. Lobby is grant. Our first night, we arrived late for dessert in the lounge. It was loud, dirty dinner dishes were all over. There was no soda, juice beverage but water bottles and the bar was open with a bartender. We stayed a week and realized since there was a volley ball convention, the items served in the lounge were different. Unlike other Marriott, staff do not clean off your table, although there are a few of them standing around. Items of food are in low quality. Except for two, most of the staff are not friendly in this lounge. The two- level gym is awesome. It has high quality equipment, even better than a commercial gym with a hefty membership fee. Apple, fresh towels and water bottle were plentiful, along with multi-TV.

Stayed at this property as part of a conference. Lobby is exquisite while the rooms could use a bit of a refresh. Without fail, each of the team members working there were outstanding. Special shoutout to security guard TJ Adams for always keeping an eye out for me and making sure I was ok.

Stayed at the MM for our annual government affairs conference. Very convenient location with a line of taxis ready to take you anywhere. The underground hallway to the Convention Center is also helpful. The rooms worked, but nothing special. The staff was nice, but again, nothing out of the ordinary. Somewhat expensive.

Dear Cadbanker,

We appreciate your feedback regarding your stay while attending a conference at the Walter E. Washington Convention Center. It is always great to learn how many conference attendees enjoyed their time with us and also the ease of using our concourse connection. We hope to have you back soon, whether it is for another event or while traveling for leisure to the DC area.

Service was lacking, even poor for the most part. As ambassador elite, no upgrade (even placed on a low floor) and we paid a Ritz Carlton price for our room. You can find many courtyard locations that are more updated. The location is the only thing this place has going for it at this point. It’s an incredible location and walking distance or a short Uber ride to everything. If they stepped up service and brightened up the rooms a bit, it would be amazing. Also, probably time to replace your towels. They were awful!

I emailed the Marriott customer service team and received no response. Therefore, I will add my experience at the Marriott Marquis Washington D.C. on social media.

1. The check-in receptionist called me the wrong name despite having my ID and credit card in is hand.
2. My wife and I went to Starbucks at 2:05 PM only to find out it closes at 2 PM. The guide in the room said it was open until 4 PM. Also, what Starbucks closes at 2 PM????
3. I received a message through the app asking how my stay was so far. I responded with a frown face. No one ever followed up.
4. I called room service and asked for two bath robes. I only received one.
5. The chat function in the Marriott app was not working.
6. At check-out, the receptionist charged a different credit card rather than the one I handed him at check-in. I would never trust the express checkout.

Overall disappointed with my experience. I believe this product is more on par with a Fairfield or Springfield product, not a flagship Marriott branded product.

This is my second year staying here for a weekend volleyball tournament at the DC Convention Center. Never again!
For a “premier” property, the service is hit and miss. We ordered room service on the Bonvoy app at 1025pm. Supposed to be delivered in 30-45 minutes (flatbread and salad). Ninety minutes later, I call the room service number from my room and am told they were overwhelmed and hadn’t started it yet. Really...
I regularly stay at the Marriott Marquis in San Francisco and never have these issues.
