Survey Manual

Directives are written communications that state policies and initiatives or that govern actions, conduct, or procedures.

- The Survey Manual (SM) establishes long-standing policies, standards, and instructions of USGS organizations.

- Handbooks establish the bureau procedures which supplement bureau policies.

- Instructional Memoranda are temporary policies established prior to SM incorporation.
