Stayed two nights at the AC Downtown. It is 5 blocks to Dupont Circle, about 3-4 blocks to the Blue/Orange/Silver Line of Metro, and 8 blocks to the White House, so it is fairly conveniently located and provides easy access to Metro and the airport. Check-in was quick and easy. The rooms face 19th Street (which is busy), the alley (which has some construction and homeless sleeping in it), or an interior room that face other rooms. None are ideal, but in DC the choices for views from the rooms are often the lesser of evils. The room was a bit tight with a small bathroom with just a shower and single sink. The shower was what looked like a prefab shower, and the floors vinyl made to look like wood. Overall it had a bit of an institutional feel that didn't feel very inviting to me. The bed was comfortable. The floors above the lobby can only be accessed using one's room key, and there is typically someone at the front door (presumably because of the homeless population in the area).
Across the street is a WaWa (a small supermarket/convenience store) and next door is a Dunkin' Donuts, which are also convenient.
I didn't have a chance to enjoy the lobby and restaurant area but walking through it the lobby/bar/restaurant were large, open and seem pretty inviting.More
